As a Believe Housing Australia tenant, you have a right to appeal any decision made by Believe Housing Australia that you feel affects your tenancy.
If you don’t agree with a decision we made, please talk to your Tenancy Officer or contact your local Believe Housing Australia office to tell us about your concerns.
You can email us at enquiry@believehousing.org.au or call us on 1800 688 000.
We are here to support you and will always try to resolve any issue you raise.
How to lodge an appeal
You have 6 weeks from the date of the original decision to lodge an appeal in writing.
Your appeal must include:
- the name and contact details of the person lodging the appeal
- the name and contact details of the other person/s involved in the matter (where possible)
- a clear statement giving the reasons why you think the decision is wrong
Download the Appeals Form (above) and email your appeal to feedback@believehousing.org.au, or post or drop off the appeal to your local Believe Housing Australia office.
After you lodge an appeal
We will write to you within days of receiving the application to let you know that your appeal has been received. As part of the appeal process, an Appeals Panel may be formed (three selected independent people) and may review your application. A time and place may be set for your appeal to be heard.
The Appeals Panel can make new decisions and will provide you with a written report on its decision.
External appeal
If you are not happy with the decision of the Appeals Panel, you can ask for a hearing with South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT).
SACAT is an independent court that reviews decisions made by landlords and community housing providers and makes the final decision.
You must lodge your application with SACAT within 30 days of receiving Believe Housing Australia’s Appeals Panel decision.
